How are we raising our children?
I was reading an article on Glenn Beck's web site. An article written by a guy named Joe Kerry. an excerpt from that article made me think;
"I have wondered what the statistics would look like if the Titantic sank today. I wonder what percentage of men versus women would survive. In the end I think it truly would be every man, woman and child for themselves. What a sad commentary on how we have raised our children that would be."
(On April 15th the Titantic sank. Amazingly 74 percent of the women lived while 80 percent of the men died. The only explanation that makes sense and confirmed by many of the survivors is that the men knowingly gave up their best chance at survival when they willingly insisted that woman and children get into the scare lifeboats. Those men on that day did not just decide to make such a selfless sacrifice but rather had been raised and taught that there is so much incredibly more to life then me, me and me.)
The article he wrote (click here to read all of it) talks about how malls are beginning to make regulations that all children must be accompanied by an adult after 4pm! Wow, seemed kind of harsh when I first read this, but the statistics show that more families came to the mall, theft was down, and purchases were up. Seems the teenagers of today are making people uncomfortable.
I know that when I went to the mall (ok, it was much cooler 10 years ago) as a teenager I did not scare anyone- I know I never stole anything- and I would usually buy something (even if it was a "double doozie cookie" from Mrs. Fields!!! or share a cheeeezy fry with my best friend Amber.
I am not sure where I am going with this so I will leave all other thoughts up to you.
gottago
